E33-Brittany Griffin, Learner Centered Collaborative (LCC)

Brittany Griffin, LCC Director of Collective Learning, joined the NewTech High podcast series this week. Thank you to NTH Board Member Lucy Payne who joined us and participated in the podcast. Brittany is an education innovator with a lifelong passion for learner-centered models, rooted in her experiences as a Montessori student. Her journey in education began as a HS French teacher where she earned her MEd in Instructional Technology. Brittany’s impact grew as she went viral with her students on Twitter and later co-authored the AP French textbook, APprenons.

In 2013, her career expanded into educational technology, where she spent several years at Amplify managing the implementation of classroom hardware and software tools. She consulted with districts at Education Elements, focusing on personalized learning, competency-based education, change management, and organizational design. In 2018, Brittany joined the Learner-Centered Collaborative, where she now supports schools, districts, and states in driving transformational, learner-centered change.


With a deep commitment to fostering inclusive, student-driven learning environments, Brittany is dedicated to shaping the future of education by empowering both educators and learners.

Brittany was able to share her views on various initiatives she is working on in different states. She talked about the LCC experiences that NewTech experienced this year at Northern Cass in ND and Hampton Township in PA, including some of those aspects that make both of these districts special in the things they are working on such as Marzano-based structure to the personalized learning focus at Northern Cass, as well as the ubiquitous views of the Portrait of a Talbot at Hampton Village. She demonstrates how these schools used such different strategies to achieve their innovative progress towards personalized learning. Her background in AI is also integral to her role at LCC as she is using her prior experience as a technology integrationist to build into student learning design. 

I really liked her answer with respect to the difference between learner-centered and student-centered. She indicated that learner-centered was more inclusive as it includes the adults as learners. Brittany hits high notes on nearly every question including AI and Vibe Coding. In Pittsburgh, she used V0, an app generator that blew me away. You really ought to learn it!

This afternoon, we welcome Janelle Field, currently working as a Continuous Improvement Coach at Resource Training and solutions out of St. Cloud. Today's Podcast with Janelle Janelle has had a more than 30 year career in education, including working as an elementary teacher at both Rockford and BBE schools, being a lead 1:1 Tech Integrationist at BB Schools. Later, she took on the role as the Engagement coach in the district.
